What was the sin of those
who built the tower of Babel?

Thank you so much to everyone who is supporting THE ANIMATED BIBLE SERIES! Together we will bring an entire animated Bible to the world! We still need your help!

Most people will say, "They were prideful ..." or "They tried to reach God," or something similar. While the people may have been prideful, and the Tower was described as "reaching the heavens," there is another very specific act of disobedience of the people. However, in order to understand what that is, we have to look at what happened before the people decided to build the tower in the first place.

After the flood, God instructed Noah to "be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth" (Gen. 9:1, ESV). This is repeated in verse 7: "... be fruitful and multiply, increase greatly on the earth and multiply in it." God wanted the descendants of Noah to inhabit the whole earth. But the people at the time had another idea and this is what they said ... (emphasis mine)

"Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth" (Gen. 11:4, ESV).

When we view the Bible as a single story of God's redemptive plan, an amazing thread appears.

The people clearly did not want to scatter. They wanted to pool their resources and make a name for themselves in the Valley of Shinar. Seeing this, God confused their language, setting back their technological advances and causing them to be "... dispersed over the face of the earth ..." (verse 8).

Why is this important? Well, when did God cause their languages to be unconfused? When people think about it, they often state "Pentecost!"

"And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language." (Acts 2:6)

At Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit come upon the believers, they began to speak in "other tongues," and all of those who heard them, heard them speaking in their own native tongue. God unconfused the languages!

And here is the exciting part. What did God tell the believers to do after the Holy Spirit had come upon them? Go into all the world!

"... you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:8 ESV)

After the great flood, the people were instructed to populate the whole earth. They disobeyed, and God confused their languages causing them to scatter. After Pentecost, the believers were told to go into all the world with the message of salvation. And the first sign was the languages being unconfused!

As we started production on THE ANIMATED BIBLE SERIES, we began to realize how beautifully everything fits together as the ONE story of the Bible. The Holy Scriptures came alive like never before and it's like reading the Bible for the very first time. We are so excited to bring this production to families, churches, missionaries ... and to the world!

We believe THE ANIMATED BIBLE SERIES will create a foundation of faith as it utilizes actual Scripture in its scripts. THE ANIMATED BIBLE SERIES is NOT another collection of Bible stories. It is the story of the Bible. The One Story.

We thank God every day for those who are praying for our team at RevelationMedia and financially supporting this critical project. May God richly bless you! Watch Episode 1: Creation and please be in prayer about how you can support this important project. And if you haven't joined our team with a monthly contribution, please consider doing so today.
