With two weeks under our proverbial belt in 2020, by a show of hands, how many of you have already thrown your resolutions out the window? Despite our best efforts to usher in a new era of health, fitness, and overall well-being, a resounding 77% of people who commit to a New Year's resolution only stick to it for a week, and only 19% of those who make resolutions actually fulfill them.

If you want to get healthier, you don't have to lose much weight to make a difference. Losing just 5% of your body weight may lower your blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure -- all risk factors for stroke and heart disease. Not to mention boosting your energy, mood, and self-esteem.
If you need help figuring out how many calories to eat, try an online tool like the Body Weight Planner. In general, though, adult women should eat 1,600 to 2,400 calories a day, and adult men should consume 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day.
Cooking at home gives you more control over your eating habits and choices. You get to decide what you're eating, the portion size, and how to cook the food. There are plenty of levers you can pull to eat fewer calories and less saturated fat, sodium, and added sugar.

Thought: Stop wasting time on fears that are holding you back!
Tip: Fear is a feeling, not a fact. The best way to gain strength and self-confidence is to do what you're afraid to do. Dare to change and grow. In the end, there is only one thing that makes a dream completely impossible to achieve: Lack of action based on the fear of failure.
Impact: When in doubt, take just the next small step. Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.
1. Favorite Recipe We Tried This Week
Not to toot my own horn but TOOT TOOT. I recently made my life a whole lot easier by making this Instant Pot® Spaghetti Squash Recipe, and I will never make it any other way again. I included step-by-step instructions so you can see just how simple the process really is.
A home-cooked meal might seem like a major undertaking, but it doesn't have to be. With a little bit of prep work, you can cook at home regularly without a ton of extra time and effort. You'll eat healthier and could save a lot of money.
One study found that not only did frequent home cookers eat higher quality, nutritious foods, they also saved a few hundred dollars a month over the eat-out crowd. And those who eat out are likely to get fewer healthy food groups, like whole grains and vegetables. And those restaurant, fast-food, or prepackaged meals tend to have more sugar, fat, and sodium than a home-cooked one. There's also a good chance the portion size is bigger. And when we're given more to eat, we tend to eat more.

Ever heard of Dry January? Quite simply, it means abstaining from any alcoholic drinks for the first month of the year. Whether it's a glass of wine with dinner, a couple of beers after work, or a celebration cocktail, more and more people are volunteering to take a break from booze for a full 31 days.
This is a new tradition for some to learn how to "reset their relationship with alcohol" and an annual "detox" for others after perhaps overindulging a bit in December. After all, we wouldn't advocate for a short-term diet over a long-term lifestyle change and expect real, lasting results.

Plus, they felt more confident to take charge.
"While at times we all need to be able to stare blankly at the television or engage in other mindless activities, the key is to recharge through things that bring us joy and mastery or that activate other parts of our brain," says Nashville-based clinical psychologist Karen Tringle. "This could be through physical exercise, calling an old friend, learning how to cook a new recipe, getting involved in a mentoring or volunteer program, or playing a game with our kids."
What after-work practices should you consider to shine in front of your boss and colleagues and feel good about yourself to boot?
Learn to master a new skill.
Cut down on the number of daily decisions.
Go over notes before bed.
Go out and play.
